Three incentives, stacked
Federal STC discount
Small-scale Technology Certificates are generated by your solar system and applied as an upfront discount on your invoice. The value depends on system size, your zone and the years remaining until 2030.
Federal battery discount
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes roughly 30% off eligible batteries of 5 kWh and above, applied at the point of sale. The rate steps down each year.
Victorian Solar Homes
Eligible owner-occupiers can access a solar panel rebate of up to $1,400, with an optional equivalent interest-free loan. Income and property-value caps apply.

Rebate questions, answered
How is the federal STC solar incentive calculated?
Small-scale Technology Certificates are based on your system size, your STC zone (Melbourne is Zone 4) and the deeming period remaining until the scheme ends in 2030. The certificates are sold at market price and the value is applied as an upfront discount on your invoice — no claiming required.
How much is the federal home battery discount?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible batteries of 5 kWh and above by roughly 30%, based on usable capacity (the discount applies to the first 50 kWh). The rate reduces each year, so the estimate here uses current 2026 settings.
Am I eligible for the Victorian Solar Homes rebate?
For the solar panel rebate you generally must own and live in the property, have a combined household income under $150,000 a year, and a home valued under $3 million that has not previously received the rebate. Eligible households can also access an optional interest-free loan. We confirm your eligibility for free before any proposal.
Does my inverter brand change the rebate?
No — as long as the inverter and panels are on the Clean Energy Council approved product lists, the incentive amount is the same. Your inverter choice matters for performance and battery-readiness: if you are adding a battery, a hybrid (battery-ready) inverter is recommended.
